We stayed at Divi on Brac in Dec 05 and thought they had a great resort and dive op. We were thinking about going back but then they closed. It's a shame because the beach in front of the resort was one of the prettiest we have been to.

I agree. The property is beautiful. The staff was great. The whole feel of the place was great. I hate it when you find something good and then it is gone. C'est La Vie!

The Divi used to be the main source, now that's done. The Brac Reef used to give tanks for shore diving but now that they are a monoply, theyve decided they are too busy. Craig who just started a dive biz. at the Divi is the current source, especially if you own a condo on the island.

Hi,

We at Brac Reef Beach Resort would like to thank everyone for their comments.

In response to Caymaniac's comments above regarding tanks for shore diving:

In the past, before Divi closed down, we provided tanks for shore diving for our guests on dive packages and also to anyone that needed tanks for a small charge. Due to the fact that we are now accommodating Divi Tiari guests, and have added on a new boat to our fleet, another 46' Newton, the shear capacity of divers we handle has increased substantially. We were not and still not able to capable of running dive boats and handing out tanks for shore diving to anyone until we get those new tanks down there. So its not a matter creating a monopoly, its a matter of handling capacity. Monopolies are not in the best interest of business or for the development of Cayman Brac. It was never our decision nor are we the type of resort that "decides" we are too busy for our guests or visitors of the island. With that said, we have ordered additional tanks to handle this increase of capacity and to start allowing the availability of tanks for shore diving again. If you have any questions, please call Reef Divers II manager Jason Belport at 1-345-948-1642 and he will be more than happy to answer all your questions.

I would also like to point out that we hired several dive staff as well as several dining and housekeeping personnel from Divi after they closed down.

Thanks for the above info.

Could you possibly post again when you have tanks available for shore diving? I know I am in a minority but not having tanks available for shore diving is pretty much a deal breaker for me.

We just returned from our second stay at Brac Reef...couldn't pass on the "two for one" deal. I beleive Barbie is one such dive staff member who signed on after the Divi closed and I can't begin to tell ya' how great she and chris were throughout the week. In light of the changes over the past months with dive staff leaving and others coming aboard, what impressed me was how tight this group is. We were saddened, however, to discover Addy had departed just days before our arrival...my wife had brought some items from China Town she had promised her...last year :11:

Again, thanks for a memorable week...

O'Malley,

I am thrilled that you had a great time. Unfortunately, as you will find anywhere in the dive industry, especially at resorts, is that the divemaster staff turnover is very high. Why else do they do what they do but to travel and see the world and everything below!! Its tough especially when you have staff that are as awesome as Addy and some of other past dive staff. They become family. It also probably has something to do with the fact the island is so small! You see each other day in and day out! Addy is working on Grand Cayman as I am sure you were told so she is still close! She is fantastic and she will be missed for sure! Did you leave the stuff for her? I am sure we can arrange to get it to her for you.
