Week 3: ProTec

Two dive buddies and I headed across the channel to mainland Mexico bound for our Airbnb in Akumal. We scheduled two days of cenote diving with ProTec out of Tulum. The taxi ride from Playa del Carmen to Akumal cost about $75 USD and took about 40 minutes.

On Day 2, we all took another taxi with all our dive gear from Akumal to ProTec costing us $55 USD. We realized later that the driver overcharged us. Gah! Now we know. We met up with our guide who proceeded to show us the ropes with gear storage and gas analyzing. He then went through a very detailed briefing about the...

May I ask how was weather early December when you were in Tulum? Did the ProTec guide say which months are the best weather wise for cenote diving?

I hope you ate some parrilla or BBQ while in Chile. Chile and Argentina have the best grilled and BBQ meats I have ever tasted.

The weather while I was in Tulum was nice. Sunny 4 out of 5 days. My last day it rained all day, but I was headed to the airport. I didn't ask the guide about the weather. But I think the weather will be fine for you from December to April like the responses to your thread have indicated. Starting in May the air temperature gets very hot and humidity gets very high. Then hurricane season from June to mid-November.
