Everybody seems to be talking about LED vs HID. I would definitely also look if your dive buddies are diving with 10 watt light or the higher wattage lights. I dove with a 10 watt light for a season (25 dives) with people who were diving 18 watt lights and it was a definite disdavantage when it came to signaling and being able to see further. My eyes would venture a look at the area that has the brighter light shining on it ,which is n this case it wasn't my light. When I went to an 18 watt I did not have those problems again.

If everybody is diving a 10 watt then my 2 cents isn't worth anything.

also isnt it if you have the weakest light you have to run the reel on the way in? thats what I have heard.

I would personnaly go for the Salvo 21w HID .. the LEDs look nice ... but they're new ... so I would wait awhile

I like the set-up of the Salvo better than the GF ... but that is simply my opinion

In looking further into this, I am also considering the Dive Rtie 24W HID. Is that a good choice as well? I know the wreck canister is PVC, but I'm not planning super cold water dives anyway. Price on this one is hundreds less than the Salvo.

Good choice,I've seen it in service many times, and appears to be very reliable.

Not necessarily.

Many times the issue of lights of dissimilar wattage can be issue of buddy and environment awareness. I have done dives where we had a 3 man team, with one on 10w,one on 18w,and another on 24w. There were never any issues of signaling, and need to get attention even with the dive occuring in a low viz cave. The more experience cave divers get and comfort in the cave environment then signaling does not become as great an issue of light wattage as it does of awareness.

GF and Salvo are some of the best light manufacturers.

You may also want to check tillytec wich is green force germany. They are the only ones with mb-sub and salvo using the ostar led from osram.

The tillytec led 1000 is as powerfull as a 18 watt hid but is focusable. Fully compatible with the green force system. It's not an invention. I'm just talking about facts. The led 1000 = HID 18 watts, but not as powerfull as a 21 watt hid.
The tristar is good but compared to the tyllitec system, it's not that good.

Maybe you can wait a little because Custom divers, Green force and MB-SUB are working on new led lights for the next two months.

After thinking about this and discussing with the guys from Salvo, I have decided the 21W LED is the one I'm going with. I just like the long life of the LED. I'll let you guys know how it works when I get it.

i started with a DR light but i switched to a Green Force... i love it... very compact and sturdy
