If youve ever dived the red sea or checked the flight prices.. Its pretty high up there on the stupidity list not to go and just ignore the "course"..

What does it "feel" like?
And more to the point, if you can feel the pressure, why shouldnt the computer?
Only way I personally ever feel the pressure is from the need to equalize btw..

Dumbest thing I've ever read. :p

It's because it was over your head. Maybe you are not getting enough sleep. Is blue eyes keeping you awake at night?

ajduplessis it was way over my head as well - why would I NOT take a free, all expenses paid dive vacation in the red sea? Just ignoring some guy isnt THAT hard

Yes i know that, and definatly felt the difference, but how does the computer? in the sea the computer can "feel" the weight of 3ata/ 20 metres, but not the case in the cave??

This from an instructor... a tek instructor... you should be ashamed of yourself. Good Grief.

Typically bottom timers read 34-37% deeper in a cave than you really are depending on the type of limestone above you. This is because the weight of the limestone pushing down on the water. It's why the cave mapping software asks for your GPS coordinates, so that it knows what type of rock is in your area and can compensate correctly.

I'm surprised so many people didn't know this.

Is that an acquired skill or did you just inherit the bull**** gene?

Either way I tip my hat to your impressive display of the art form...

If I were you I'd melt his C-cards.

That one still cracks me up... :D

Fortunately not any more.

But I am lucid enough that I'd take a free trip to the red sea in exchange for a questionable open water class. After all, I'm a certified diver

Oh man, I almost had a stroke when I read this, I assumed you were being serious. I should have known better, but thanks to DA for letting me off the hook. I was preparing to dig out the professor hat.

Just a thought for everyone, but is there something constructive to suggest for the OP? I think it's agreed his comprehension of this concept isn't what it should be considering his status. By this time more posts expressing shock and jokes at his expense won't cause any positive change, it's just heaping on humiliation. What is he to do? Quit teaching? Quit cave diving? It's not likely anyone will do either of those things just because people on a forum boo them off the stage.

He has somewhat more to learn than he should at this point, and he exposed the ignorance way more publicly than he should've... but at least he's trying to learn. Someone give him a goal instead of another 'OMG!'

I don't think his stats show him to be a tek instructor-- he's an instructor with technical certs.

Can somebody draw another picture for me? I'm starting to get it but math was never my thing.
So, when the white heavy rocks are pushing down, but we have a little bubble of air above us, but there's a column of water coming down in a squiqqly line, which pressure were we supposed to calculate again? How come those rocks don't crush the divers? I was reading about a diver in a mine with lots of shoring? How come the mine didn't collapse?
Okay, sorry, I'm blonde but just kidding ya.
