I had an awesome time this past Saturday afternoon at Cathedral Rocks. It was my first time diving that site. Luckily I had the fortune of hooking up with fellow NELDs, Spectre, Reefseal, and Beaker. They graciously took me under their wing to show me the ropes, and, to ensure that my newbieness didn’t get me killed. Thanks guys. The weather was hot and sunny which is perfect for me. The seas very calm. There were 6 or 8 other divers on the rocks while we were there. So it never felt crowded.

Our first dive was at 3:30, roughly 45 minutes before high tide. Reefseal led the way out through the canyons and walls that make up the landscape of this site. Along the way I spotted several flounder, assorted big fish, a pout, and a few large bugs. The visibility was clear, about 20-25 feet, and the bottom temp at 61’ recorded at 44°. Each of our two dives lasted about 35 minutes, not nearly as long as I would like to have stayed down.

I can’t wait to get back. I’m looking at the weather for this coming Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for another go at Cathedral Rocks. If anyone were interested, Friday morning would be best for me if the weather looks good……..Al

Spectre you would be proud I have a lobster in my fridge right now that I caught yesterday...and it was legal! It wasn't a monster but it was legal. :D

By the way my Lob. lic. came in Saturday evening!!!!!!!:)

Excellent! Congrads! Now, it's not like I'm wishing you ill will or anything, but there is a small part of me that hopes there is some, basically harmless, bacteria in that bug that will knock... oh... maybe 10% off your pool game.... ;)

Hmm.... I've never done Cathedral. If people are gonna go out this weekend, please keep me posted (here or by PM). My SO and I just finished our AOWs and are eager to get some dive time in.

Also, we're headed out on a cruise of the eastern caribbean, so a little practice wouldn't hurt us :)

Hmm... Where in the world were the large bugs hiding on Friday!?!? All we ran into were legal-size lobsters with eggs and the endless stream of mini-lobsters that almost looked like they had just hatched out of them...

And Devils_Advocate, you sure that lobster's legal? Those fake carapaces are getting better & better, and statutory lobstering laws can be pretty harsh, I hear! :D

I did see about 3 or 4 most likely legal bugs on that dive. However they were a little deep in the rocks; and one I swear was too big to get out from under there.. just had to wait until a fish came in so he could actually feed.
