Chapin the same thing as a cowfish? Them suckers tend to be pretty tough...

Yeap, they have a hard shell that one of the local fishermen told to boil the whole thing and when the shell crumbled, take out all the meaat and discard the rest.

Nice Fish... looks like they even come scaled and cutted down there. We have to do it ourselves up here. You guys most be pretty desperate for food down there eatin bonita when you have Hogs!

The pic was taken at home, and yes the cleaning was done on the dock after arrival

Desperate? not, just eat what you fish and don't waste any resources.

If we catch lets say a barracuda trolling, we'll unhook it and dump it back to the water.

Those are Atlantic (common) Bonito--Sarda sarda. They are related to mackerel, but are more closely related to tunas.

They do taste like tuna for sure, but the meat is darker than the tuna

I was just pullin your leg about the cleaned fish obviously. Been a long time since I've seen a post where the fish have been preped.
However I have eaten Little tuna/Bonita, If I work really hard at it they are paletable but definately my last choice of fish to eat and nothing like Black or Yellowfin. You should be pitching the LT's back and keeping the small Kuda for the smoker. They're actually heads and tails over the LT's if they don't have Sigaterra at that size down there. Take Care!
