TY for the responses. Did you have any issues with new masks postop with reading gauges etc? Currently I wear a prescription mask
my only issue was that after a couple years I needed readers - far sight is still great (no glasses) but needed a bit more to clearly read my computer.

Like most others it was very straightforward and the actual surgery time is but a few minutes. I no longer need glasses for anything but really small print where 1.50 reader sis enough. Shortly after on a follow they discovered wet macular degeneration but that is now under control with injections.

Good to hear your wet Mac degeneration is under control as I think my wife has the beginning stage. Being a wimp, I just am not looking forward to someone messing with my eyes. Thanks to everyone for your stories and thoughts. After wearing glasses for almost 60 years, it is going to b a little weird 🐠

It was glasses or contacts for me for 55 years. I still have the impulse to reach for my glasses in the morning and to remove my contacts at night. But I absolutely do not miss them.

Update….well it has been about 4 months since my first eye was done followed 2 weeks later by my second eye surgery and it has been interesting to say the least. I opted to have my eyes done at the office so oral meds only. Hindsight, I would have had IV sedation for reasons that I will explain. Turns out that my cataracts were very, very dense. My wife says that this was because they were really brain fragments, not sure what she means by that. Anyway this mean that the doctor spent 45-50 minutes banging away with the ultrasound to breakup the cataracts instead of the usual 20 minutes per eye. While not painful, it was annoying and if I had it to do over again I would have had IV sedation and been out of it. Like @uncfnp, I was very nearsighted and has some trouble with my eye pressure but not as bad. With 3 different eyedrops it was a bit of a PIA to keep track of how many of each go into the eye every day. Luckily my eyes were done 2 weeks apart because walking around and not able to do much was maddening. Was not allowed to bend over or pickup anything over 5 pounds or do any type of exercise for 4 weeks after my last surgery. I have to wear reading glasses, so I found myself stealing my wife’s cheaters much to her annoyance. I have also found that if I hold things out far enough I can usually read it.
WOW what a difference it has been. I was stunned at how much brighter everything was.
I am wearing sunglasses every time I go outside now. Not doing this before probably sped up the development of the cataracts. As others have mentioned I am constantly trying to take off my non existent glasses before going to bed or the shower. On the other hand before surgery I was always wearing glasses so never worried about protecting my eyes so I am constantly trying to remember to wear eye protection when working or sunglasses when outside. I am also always forgetting where I misplaced my sunglasses or readers. They are usually on top of my head so my wife said she is going to get me one of those chains that librarians wear around their necks. No respect I say.
Underwater is amazing. Everything is brighter and sharper. Looking back, I should have done this a couple of years ago instead of putting it off.
Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year! Be safe🐠
