Catalina Sunday 12/16?

OK, here goes.....
I've been diving for a number of years (since 1972), all warm water, and mostly vacation diving in the last 20 (Most recently in October on Maui). But the bug is hitting me to try some local diving, so I bit the bullet and bought a 7mm wetsuit and I'm thinking a day trip to Catalina Sunday for a couple of simple dives at the park would be a good way to break it in (get my weighting down, etc...). Problem is, no buddy....
Anybody interested in diving with a total local noob to show him the ropes?
Or maybe it would be better to pay someone like ScubaLuv for a couple of guided dives?
Or just put away my antique camera till I go to Coz in Feb?

Hi Jim,
I would not worry too much about a buddy. There are usually people who would be happy to let you dive with them. In fact a small group of us are going to be there. Should not be a problem.

Thank-You, I saw that, but I'm not comfortable just showing up and tagging along on my first local dives, too many variables (and too many bad/scary instabuddies in my past). I think the best bet for me is to just pay the piper and go for a guided dive. Then if I spend a lot of time getting my buoyancy just right I don't have to worry.

Jim,

Sounds like a good idea to get at least one guided dive in first. I'm not sure who the #1 diver is for Scuba Luv tomorrow, but it may be Tim who is one of my occasional buddies and an accomplished diver/instructor.

headhunter will be diving there all weekend....I believe LAJim will be there too...there are going to be a lot of competent divers at Casino Point.

Have a great time! I've dove with headhunter several times before and as a noob myself, he's a great dive buddy....
