Hello everyone,

I'm coming in on a cruise ship March 9th and am doing at least one dive with CDS that morning at Casino Point. I'm going to try to squeeze in a second one if there is space available and time (the ship leaves at 4:30 p.m.) Any SoCal or Catalina divers that will be there that day, I would love to meet you. I'm pretty psyched because I've never dove non-tropical waters before. I'm excited to see the kelp forests and experience something different. Anyway, anyone that wants to join me, I'll be the fat guy freezing my butt off in 7 mil!!!!

Doubt I'd be diving that day, but I may try to swing down to the park to say hi.

It's a bit far for me to plan ahead, but keep us updated. I haven't been to Casino Point yet this year, so this may be an opportunity.

Casino Point dives rarely disappoint regardless of the time of the year. I like going in the off-season time so that I don't have to fight for space to lay my gears down or get held up at the stair getting in and out of water.

If memory served, Teamcasa and a few of us went early May 09 and it was quite lovely with the top layer began to warm up and we saw all sorts of thermoclines rippling in the water. One moment it was 58F and the next moment it was 52F. Kinda snaps you awake when you start to lull in the bathwater.

Sorry HT, but 58F ain't exactly bathwater :D.

If you catch a good spring day, the surface temps can be very nice for between dives, but the water hasn't warmed up yet so the kelp & sealife is still abundant. Honestly, its hard to have a bad dive at the park.

okay, that is exactly what I wanted to hear! I gotta think about this......

Do you know if the dive boats go out every weekend? Minimum number needed? I really want to do both shore and boat dives. :D

Can I suggest you look here Catalina Island Sticky, and yes, I believe the boats go every weekend, but I would call the dive ops (CDS and Scuba Luv) to confirm.

I did better, I e-mailed Scuba Luv, they replied they need 6 people to go out. :D

If you don't mind, please keep me updated. I'd like to hit the water with fellow New Mexicans. It ain't a coincidence that my wetsuit sports red & yellow colors.:dork2: I tried to convince the wetsuit shop to put the Zia sun on my suit's torso but they didn't want to go through the hassle.:depressed:
