I assume they provide soft weight with the tank rental? How's the water temperature during march? I will be diving with a 7mm.

Thanks again!

Some rent out soft weights, but generally speaking, the shops & boats rent out hard weights.

Ok, thanks!

Final question, I promise :) Is there a local site or someone you know that can provide lodging for 6 or so people? We are looking for a condos/house from 3/19 to 3/21.

Thanks!

the wife and I just got back from catalina and we loved it we got a dive package from hotel atwater and I think we got a great deal. we dove the park the first day (to get our boyancy and salt water acclimitization done, then the next day we dove with scuba luv on the king neptune (VERY NICE BOAT AND CREW) we absolutely love it the boat crew and shop were very helpful and went above and beyond to help us out. my wife's wetsuit had shrunk significantly since last time she used it and the shop drove out to the point with anohter suit for her and some extra weights (this was before we even had done paperwork with the shop) great guys to work with! I highly recommend then to any diver reguardless of # of dives or skill level they are top notch!

Try this website: Catalina Hotels
Seaport Village Inn does cater to divers, and will pick you and your gear up and take you back to the dock when you leave. Metropole & Villa Portofino are a bit nicer.

There are three shops here in Avalon... SCUBA Luv, Catalina Divers Supply and Dive Moore. All three can give you a good experience. For my money, SCUBA Luv's King Neptune dive boat is the best if you want to get a full day of diving in (3 dives). CDS's div boat does 2-3 dives a day if you want a shorter day. Dive Moore does not have their boat here yet, but might by then.

Shore diving in the park is great and easy... gear rental from CDS right there on site.

I dove Catalina for the first time last April. It was only me, and I made arrangements in advance for a dive guide with Scuba Luv. We did two dives from the parking lot in the Dive Park, which I thought was a great way to go. I spent one night at the Seaport Village Inn, which was pretty basic, but the service was good and the price was right.

I just requested a reservation on the Neptune for 3/20. Thanks again for all the info!
