Water around SoCal was pretty bad the weeks leading up to the weekend of 8/16 - and I really wanted to get some good underwater shots of the X1. The X1 shots are here: X1 Beauty Shots

Dette and I decided to go to Catalina for the day to get into some clear water.

Of course, it was bad there, too.

OY!

So it became a macro day in the water, and an X1 day above the water.

Here are some shots.

Enjoy.

======================================

Mexi at the Val - I spotted this guy on the sand near the wreck of the Valiant. He was crawling on the stilts and growth coming from the sand.

Octo in Shell - we found this guy half sitting in a hole in the wall, and half sitting in a large wavy turbin shell. Too cute.

Reaching Clown - this Nudi was on some junk on the back side of the Sue-Jac wreck in the park. He was right on the top edge. I got some shots. Then he pulled up and started reaching out and then things got fun. I watched him poke the sky for maybe 5 - 7 minutes as 'dette searched the wreck for another Hypse.

Eel at the Dentist - on the way back from the Sue-Jac we found a hole that was stuffed with little shrimp - a sure sign there's an eel inside. The eel poked his head out an the shrimp went to work, cleaning his teeth and mouth. He kept shaking them out, but they kept coming back.

Flying Hudsons - the sand around the Valiant is loaded with Hudson's Nudis. We're at about 90 feet, and dette comes over with a Hudson's on a kelp leaf. I got some shots, and he fell off the leaf. So I kept shooting as he tumbled through the water. Unfortunately, Hudson's don't fly well. They sort of turn over and fall upside-down. Who knew?
