Has anyone been diving recently at Casino Point? If so, what are the conditions looking like? I have a friend from Ireland that I am taking over there on Saturday for a day of diving...Just hoping the conditions are good as this will be her first trip diving the SoCal waters.

Thanks in advance for the information.

Dr. Bill has reported good visibility and conditions (and warm water) recently- but as you know that can change quickly.

I was there this past Saturday with the Gold Star Dive. Water was quite warm, high 60's at the surface, 57 deg at the thermocline (~40 fsw), 55 deg at 90 fsw (Sue-Jac). Visibility varied a lot due to the number of students churning up the bottom. In the deeper areas, it was around 35-45 feet. In the kelp areas, more like 15 feet vis.

Thank you for the information...we're on the early boat so hopefully will beat the students in the water for at least the first dive!

Until yesterday, dive conditions have been great. I dove Descanso Bay yesterday to conduct the Sea Trek monitoring and was faced with the "worst" conditions in a week (the rest of the days were gorgeous however, so comparison may be unfair). Of course Descanso has a sandy bottom and the surge was kicking it up reducing vis to 10-20 ft vs the 50-70 ft we had earlier. Conditions at Casino Point may be significantly better since there is a lot of rocky shore there.

Thank you Dr. Bill for the up to date information...I hope the conditions are good so my friend will have a good experience for her first SoC

From the surface it looked like things had improved at Descanso yesterday.
