Yes, I live in NY. Bayside Queens to be specific. I forgot to add it in my profile.

This is my 1st group dive trip. I figure it's a good way to meet other divers in the area.

The hardside cases for carryon are too small for my camera housing. Even the seahorse is not deep enough. The softside bags expand enough to fit but won't give me the extra protection if I am forced to check it.

There are few flights, for example: to LabuanBajo (Komodo) or TanjungRedep (Berau/Derawan) where you have no choice but to fly with a small/propeler plane.
Checked-in baggage aside, they will (most of the time) weigh your carry-on baggages (and yourself!). This is normal as they need to know how much is the overall weight compared to the maximum weight capacity of what the plane can carry.

What you probably need to be worry is that if the flight is full and it's a holiday season, most likely there will be lots of heavy baggages. Than without a doubt, some baggages will be left out and delayed for later flight.
To avoid this, if you travel in group, better report this and request that they will paid attention not to leave your baggages.
Or you can also try telling them that you have a connection flight back to your country (or whatever).. 2 out 3 times we flew, some baggages were delayed. But don't get too worry, cause we always flew on the holiday season, so you might be luckier than us.

Cheers,
Acuan.

It varies by domestic small airlines in Indonesia. I always prepare for the worst!

Continental-Micronesia (737s, Guam-Bali) does NOT. It allows one bag of 50 lbs., and ONE bag of 70lbs -- IF you announce that it is scuba gear! Good deal!

Best to try to contact the airline and inquire.

And be prepared for delays and lost luggage.

I dove Ambon in 1991, the year before the riots. Great diving!
