Headed to Bonaire next week and wondering if anyone has had experiences with carry-on luggage being weighed?

I'm flying United and hope to mitigate my checked bag weight by carrying on regs, lights, 19 cu ft pony, etc. If there's a weight limit of any kind I expect to exceed it.

United's website lists only size restriction. Past experiences lead me to believe I'll be fine on the way there. I'm mostly interested in experiences departing Bonaire.

Ontzettend bedankt!

I don't think United has a carryon weight limit, only size. Don't recall ever having one weighed on a US carrier anyplace in the Caribbean. I wouldn't worry about weight as long as it's an ok size and you're not leaning over sideways carrying the thing. (Airlines based in other countries often have smaller limits on size and weight for carryons, and will sometimes weigh them. And small planes anywhere might weigh them.)

I don't know about ponies in carryon though. TSA might consider it a club (whatever the rules, you never know.) So read up specifically on the rules and experiences of people traveling with ponies. Or probably someone will be someone will be along here with info on that. If you really can't cut down on what you're taking, you can always pay for an extra checked bag and be done with it.

I have never had my carry on weighed which is fortunate. I have a lot camera equipment, batteries, a laptop and ipad in it weighs a ton. I try to make sure that it looks light when I pick it up though.

Liat Airlines weighed our carry on bags leaving St Vincent to Barbados last week. Didn't get charged on the way out but the way back we did.

Under TSA regs, anything that might be a "cudgel" is banned from the cabin. They have at varying times banned large telephoto lenses, camera tripods, you name it. Depending on the airport, the regs are enforced more or less stringently.

Baseball bats and golf clubs are pretty much always banned. A pony bottle?? That's at the discretion of the inspector, and they are supposed to open that up and physically look inside, in any case. To me it would be a cudgel, and banned, but that's just because I know you can smack someone with it. Hang a mask on it, tell 'em you've got emphysema, then all of a sudden it will no longer be a cudgel. (shrug)

I travel with a 6 and I pack it in the checked bag. I would be surprised to learn that they would let you bring a 19 on.

I've only flown United a couple of times but they didn't weigh my carry-on. BTW there are new size restrictions which I think are 22 X 14 X 9 which seems to be for all airlines in the US. I could be off on one of the measurements but I remember the "22" because my bag is 24" which used to be OK on most airlines. Now I need to get a new carry-on bag :( Dang, and I paid $2.50 for mine at a thrift store only about 100 flights ago. I've actually thought about cutting the legs and wheels off but then it really would be a "bag drag." Also, the weight limit on the checked bag is usually 50 pounds in the US. I have a digital luggage scale someone gave me for Christmas which agrees with the airlines within an ounce. I'm usually very close to the limit so one of those scales is worthwhile for me. It's also handy if you want to weigh a tank, BC, or weights etc.

I saw someone walk on a plane wearing a rebreather. Never seen anything weighed on a commercial flight.
