Charlotte or Raleigh I would recommend. Raleigh is closer to the ocean for diving but charlotte is a four hour drive .. Wilmington could be cool but on the ocean.. Charleston is awesome but not much except the tourist areas and columbia is hot . Price of living is comparible to fl but we have state income taxes, and on groceries, 8% on prepared food..ouch
