Does anyone know when 'Carnival or Carinvale' 2005 is in Coz. My assumption is that it is a MardiGras type celebration just before ash Wed.
Bob

That is normally correct. But this year Fat Tuesday falls on a Mexican election day when liquor can not be sold. So the tourism people moved it a week later. The real party animal can do New Orleans then fly down to Cozumel and do it again. Looking forward to witnesing the Catholics vs the Tourism Board. Anything could happen.

It is a religious celebration that is the equivalent to Mardi Gras in the US. It is the big feasting and celbration time before lent. It is typically the week leading up to and including Fat Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday). However, this year the celebration has been pushed back a week due to a federal election being on Fat Tuesday. During a federal election, all alcohol sales are suspended for 24 to 72 hours...can't remember exactly) before the election, even to tourists. Obviously, this would interfere with the Carnival activities, so the officials decided to move the Carnival dates back a week. So much for the religious significance this tradition has...and so much for lent :33:

If you haven't booked your hotel and diving by now, gooooood luck! Carnival is the busines week of the year and fills up months in advance. Busier that Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, or Spring Break.

Here is an excellent source for Carnival information. Sherri of Cozumel Insider is actually on the Carnival Committee/Board and has served in this capacity for many years. If anyone can answer your Carnival questions, it's Sherri.
