Carnival ship avoids disaster full story here.....

The ships have what is called a bow thruster, it would be like a jet drive in the motor in the bow, if they had the bow thruster turned to port insted of starborn you could lose steering control for a minute. With a bow thruster and twin screws turning in oposite directions you can dock a 800' ship in a wind storm! Bow thruster eliminate the need for a tug boat at the bow and one at the stern, for docking and undocking.Saves the shipping company alot of money. I was a Seafarer years ago and sailed the Lakes, Deepsea, and Ocean going tug boats.

I have a friend that was on the ship and she sent me this when I mentioned it too her:

"We actually were on the Inspiration. We didn't hear anything about that.
We were supposed to leave the dock at 10:00 p.m., but we didn't leave after
until after two because they couldn't find two kids that were supposed to be
on the boat."


Hmmmm.....sounds like some on board damage control to me.
