Having sat in on a quite few public hearings and Gulf Coast Council meetings a few years ago when they were dramatically changing the fishery I was involved in for the first half of my working life in southwest Florida, I came to the conclusion that the experts both politically and scientifically would pretty much say whatever the people on "their side" wanted to hear. That's just the way it is. In these times you can come up with data to support your argument on whatever side you have taken.
I also think it should be noted that certain species are much much more resistant to the affects of commercial fishing that others. I am guessing that lionfish may be one of the tougher ones.
