car rental advice in playa please

hubby and i will be staying in playa del carmen for a long weekend in may. we want to rent a car for one of the days and do our own little excursion to Coba,and snorkel in a cenote or two around there. Can you recommend a good and reasonable car rental place for us? thanks in advance.

We have used both Easyway and cancunrentacar offices in Cancun with great luck. They both have offices in Playa and can be booked over the internet. With Cancunrentacar the full coverage and 0 deductible will be included. If you use easyway make sure to include it when you get you quote. Enjoy.

While I am sure there are good local rental places, when we go to Mexico, we book our rental cars through Avis. The Avis location in PDC is out on the main road, pretty easy to get a cab over there (and last time we rented from them, they drove us back to our hotel).

Have you looked into booking a guide, who would take you where you want to go, and take the hassle out of renting a car (and potentially being responsible if something, unfortunately, happens)? You might check with your hotel.

I have used Easyway for the last 5 years based on a recommendation on Scubaboard. Have always been happy with my dealings with them. I deal with the Cancun office and they meet you at the airport and take you to their office. They are always there to drive you back even for the really early flights.

In Playa there are several rental agencies. Hertz has an office on the highway ( main depot) and a second office at 5th and Calle 10. A basic rental is 50$US per day and you pick up the vehicle at either location or at the WalMart. Return is to the highway depot. A cheaper option used by several SBers is Isis Car Rental. This is the norm for Dandy Don, an SB authority on anything Coz and Playa related.

+1 for cancunrentacar. Hassle free and they actually tell you how much you will be paying. Most others, you reserve over the Internet at a great rate and when you get there they tell you about all the mandatory insurance that costs more than the car rental.
