Get a key made that only opens the door manually. Put in BC pocket. Keys with electronics stay in car.
Did this recently with my Escape. Had it done while I was at the dealership getting warranty work done. Goes in a little pocket inside my drysuit, on my suspenders. Great for my quarry diving.

used a small dry box one time, but somehow it opened...Luckily, I dried out the key fob and it worked.
Since then, I leave the key fob in a little nook/crevice on the outside of the car. Kind of where 2 body panels meet. No issues so far, but I try to be careful when I place it there to make sure no one is around, in hopes that nobody sees where I put it.
Used to put in a ziploc bag and bury in the sand and put my towel & water bottle on top. Got to thinking that if someone took my towel & bottle, there would be no way for me to know where I buried it, lol.

Some cars that have proximity sensors don't secure the car with a fob/key in/near it....

I have a lock box from Piranha if I need it.

I have a non-chip key for the door, and the key and fob can be secured with the vehicle.
