Am thinking of a day or 2 in the Cape Ann, Mass. area next summer. I may look to do shore dives (would seek a buddy) or charters. Cape Ann Divers seems well-known. Anyone do their charters? Other ops? Has anyone noticed any whelk shells in the area--ei. N.E. Neptunes, Northern Whelks, Colus Whelks, etc. Appreciate any info.

Cape Ann Divers is a good choice for a charter in the area. They run many dive trips and have two nice boats, a larger boat and a smaller six pack boat. I've been on their charters many times and always had a great time.

Another good charter is Fran Marcoux's Daybreak (Cape Ann Charters) Cape Ann Charters, Inc.. Fran and his son Matt are both great.

To be honest, I'm unsure regarding your shell question but I'm pretty sure I have seen some whelk shells I am just usually digging for lobsters and not paying attention to other things :-)

Cape Ann Divers is excellent, my wife and I go out with them frequently. Shore diving is very good as well, Folly Cover and Old Garden Beach are two of our favorites (although, we enjoy them all!). You might want to pick up Jerry Shine's book "A Shore Diving Guide to New England". Cape Ann Divers also has shore diving info at the shop. Sorry, can't help with the shells...we're usually so focused on torpedo rays, wolf eels, sharks etc. etc.

I agree with the others, you cant go wrong with either Cape Ann Divers or Cape Ann Charters. Both are excellent boats, however, Fran and Matt's service can't be beat.

As to your shell question, I can't help you with that.

When the date gets closer, post again. I'm sure that you won't have a hard time finding a buddy.

Thanks all for the tips. I will post for a buddy next Spring.

Cape Ann Divers used to give free guided dives on Saturday mornings. I don't know if they still do that. You could give them a call, could solve all your problems.
Good Luck Happy Diving
