What can you tell me about Canyon Lake? My family and I are heading to San Antonio for the July 4th weekend, and I was thinking about a slight detour to dive Canyon Lake July 1st. Never been.

Where to go? What to see? Activities for non-divers and children?
Dive Shops in the area for tanks and regs?
Etc, etc, etc.

Thanks Gang!

The dive shop that used to be in New Braunfels closed so the next bet is Duggan Diving, in Universal City; which will be convenient if you're coming from San Antonio to dive Canyon. For Diving you have two choices both are shore entries, North Park or off Boat Ramp #1 at Holiday Lodge Bed and Breakfast.
At North Park you will have to pay the park entry fee of $12 for a campsite. North Park is good for shore swimming for non-divers. Use a Dive Flag due to boat traffic, I will usually float mine out and tie it off to a platform finish my dive and float it back in to shore at the end of the dive. Any other questions let me know.

it is important to realize the corps of engineers requires you to rent a campsite at north park before they will let you dive. there is no more "day use" for divers. camp sites are $12 per day as jason mentioned, and are good until 2pm the following afternoon. that means you will either need to rent a site june 30th, and dive the morning of the first, or wait until 2pm to enter north park on july 1st. the park fills up quickly, so make your reservations soon. the closest dive shop is san marcos http://www.divesanmarcos.com/
