Can't get the wing I want now. Should I get a different rig or a jacket BCD for now?

Why not call Patrick at Oxycheq and see if he'll give you a loaner plate, to be returned when you get your new plate? I don't know but I'll bet they would do that.

Why don't you buy a backplate and an Oxycheq wing, and dive that rig until the Freedom plate is being made again? Then you have a wing you can still use, a backplate you can sell, and who knows -- You might decide in the meantime that you don't need a different plate, and then you're completely ahead of the game.
Because that would be too easy. . .

The wing is MUCH more important than the plate, and many backplates are compatible with this wing. I dive the Mach V with a Fred T SS Plate, and have been extremely happy.

Good luck, and dive safe.

That's great, but now you're going to need an Aqua-master double hosed regulator, a tank with a J-valve, and a watch with an orange face.
That's right! I guess I didn't think ahead. Thank you for drawing my attention to it! I could have bought the wrong equipment. I have to reconsider.

I think dkatchalov will be my hero now :superman: He is the only one who actually gave me a complete set up with names and prices.

OK pros, you win. I am ordering the hog-rig. But don't get carried away! There is no way :no I am putting this weight belt around my neck :no. After all there were only two votes for it and these are obnoxious DIR cyber-stalkers like JeffG.

Hate makes ugly hearts, and sometimes faces.

I voted for it.

Shekes, don't make me a hero, please (even if I am your firendly underwater super hero with a mighty N on my chest---lol---I am joking!!)

Just get yourself an Oxy Mach V and a Hammerhead plate or a nice OxyCheq plate. These things are all modular. I am sorry if I have overly influenced you to the point of total confusion. While on the subject, the other usual manufactuers also make fine products. Furthermore, if you get a plain ol' jacket BC you will not die and you might even like them. That Freedom Plate I have is for all intents a custom piece I am sorry (and happy) to say. I am confident you will not notice the tank being slightly farther back if you use one of the more "typical" plates such as the DSS or Qxy or DiveRite etc. It will not be significant to you and like I mentioned in another thread, that Mark Meadows type mini plate is nice also. The world does not begin and end with a Freedom Plate as much as it seems I post pictures of it----do not fret so.

When and if the Freedom Plate is manufactured again you can jump on one then. I could be wrong but best I can see there is nothing that keeps me from using a variety of wings on my Freedom Plate other than the Mach V. Plates are relatively cheap and easy to sell on ebay.

Anyways, good luck to you.

PS--double hose regulators are the bomb. JFYI, most of my gear is custom made or made by me or highly modified by me or made/designed by others of my freinds or collected and cherished over many years and not exactly over the counter--more like a custom Harley than a Honda moped.

Geez, all these subtle differences are like lining up a row of unmarked beers and trying to identify which is which. Sure, some folks might be able to..but! It reminds me of a term I once heard, "analysis paralysis". Just get some good gear and go dive!

FWIW I dive warm water with a t-shirt. I have an AL DiveRite plate with an Oxycheq 30#wing. I have two xs-scuba pouches on the cumberbund and dive an AL80 with 4#. I love it. It packs flat for travel and doesn't weigh much more than many jackets. Oh, and just as important, it dries WAY faster.

DING DING DING - we have a winner!

PS: buy a USED plate here on ScubaBoard and be even further ahead of the game!

Because:

1) everybody who owns the Freedom Plate swears by it and these are all people who own several rigs each, so they don't just love what they have (spent $$ on)

Faulty logic: These people "have" and "spent $$ on" a Freedom plate. Whether they have other rigs as well is immaterial.

Buying a "Scout" when you want a BP/W is a ridiculous idea when a maybe-some-time-in-the-future-obsolete BP is half the price of an already-osolete-in-the-context-of-a-BP/W "Scout."
