Hey guys

Need some assistance here. I'm new to diving and thinking of getting into underwater photography. My purpose is to take pictures so that I can remember and identify what I see (so nothing fancy... really just for myself)

I currently have a Canon SD1000/Ixus 70 (bought this a few years ago). The specs as follow
-7.1 megapixels
-Whitebal (Auto, Customs, Preset)
-Light sensitivity (Auto ISO, ISO 100, 200, 400,800, 1600)

Will that be sufficient or should I upgrade and buy a new camera?

thanks!

Suzzy

There's a bunch of 'hard core' guys around here that'll tell you all about how your camera sucks and you should run out and buy an S90 or G11 or your pics will turn out like crap. Don't listen to them. I've been shooting a Nikon 7900 for years and have gotten some kick-ass pics. You'll be able to get good shots with your camera, too. National Geographic quality ? No. But good enough to blow up to 8x10 and hang on your wall. Most of what it takes to get good pics lies with the person holding the camera. Read a book or two on u/w photography and shoot a lot. You should look into a strobe, too. Your camera and housing are discontinued, but after a quick search I found one place that still sells the Canon housing. Adorama (LeisurePro) is a reputable place. I've bought a bunch of stuff from them in the past. I'm partial to Ikelite, but Canon will do.

Thanks for that. I actually reside in Australia and the camera shop can order it from canon for me. (so not too much issue with discontinued model)

As mentioned, I only need the picture to identify the fish and good enough quality for my own satisfaction. I'm not even planning to do a 8*10 blow up so I guess what I have should be more than sufficient for my purposes!

Thanks again.
