Do any of you have any experience with this camera?
If so could you please give me the pros and cons.

Ive got the camera (450D) and was hoping to buy an Ikelite housing for myself this Christmas.

However in the last 2 months the housing price has gone from $1250usd to $1910 which means i cant actually afford one :(

On land though its a fantastic camera - i really love it.

Ohh man I just bought the 450D a few weeks ago and I decided to wait till I get back to the states to get my housing..... is that the price there in Whales or is that what you would have to pay online?

But the XSi is an awesome camera... my first D-SLR I have ever owned... i jsut recently decided to retire my Point and Shoot.

I took a Rebel XSi on my trip for 2 weeks to French Polynesia to play with it a bit topside and also play with the new Housing for it from Watershot which will be available this month.

I have to say I thought the camera was great. The camera I generally shoot is the Nkon D300, but the XSi sure worked well for me as a great topside camera and quite small underwater. I shot with the 18-55 kit lens for the trip as I dont have a selection of Canon lenses (being a Nikon shooter). I just wanted to test the kit lens out as that was the port sent to me from Watershot. I think if you put a Tokina 10-17 or the Canon macro lenses, you will be VERY happy.

This is definitely going to be the most popular of the Rebel series to date. As of now, there are 5 manufacturers with housings: Sea & Sea (coming this month), Seatool (out now), Ikelite (ava. now), Watershot (later this month) and Patima (ava. now). The pricing on the housings very greatly.

Its the price from the UK importer. Bought the camera and decided to wait for housing. Fatal mistake as means i cant afford it now. Even bought the EF-S 10-22mm lens ready for it.

Combination of poor ޣ -> $ exchange rate and other things i think. Online wont help as still need to add import duty and VAT onto prices so no cheaper.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I have this vague memory of a thread sometime within the last year where several people reported problems (lock-up, maybe?) with a particular Rebel x-something model when used underwater (under pressure, maybe?). Anyone remember that thread? It may have been traced to a firmware problem (surprisingly). I spent some time searching and browsing, but with no luck. Thanks.

I superseded my old Rebel (original one) for the Xsi last August and bought the 70-250 IS lens (I think it is 70-250) to go along with it. What a GREAT combination of lenses -- and what a great camera.

I like how Canon put the things I want to use where they are easily accessed (ISO change for example) -- the focus is very fast -- the kit IS lens is great (and, as I wrote, so is the "sibling" telephoto). I am amazed at how well the IS compensates for lens shake which makes sunset handheld pictures a realistic activity.

BTW, I have yet to even look at the live view function -- and I have no current plans to house it.

Live view is going to be on limited use. All i can think of really are macro use with a tripod or portrait use. The auto focus is very slow and a few other limitations mean its not going to be overly useful, especially U/W.

It'll be good for tripod macro though due to 10x digital zoom and manual focus meaning you can focus it perfectly.

I bought my 450D with the specific purpose of housing it but sadly price increases mean i cant for now.
