Playing around this morning with a Canon G1X, Ikelite housing and DUAL DS51 strobes..........TTL circuitry is so far superior to guessing at exposures while your subject swims off into the blue.....

Have learned some Canon G1X shooting tricks reading land photogs usages on focussing from 1.3' - 5' or so (turtles, dive buddies, reefscapes.)

After shooting general distance shots I proceeded to play with an external macro (Woody's diopter) which fits Ikelite flat macro ports AND this Canon G1X (plus Ikelite's Canon G11 / 12 housing port.)

My small stone stingray is 3" X 3", the wooden shark about 6.5" long for size reference............Went "old school" with a macro technique I can't reveal yet, but let's just say this is looking very promising!

My wide shots used Haas Photography assistant Numero' Uno', Geisha the cat :)

Please don't compare this 20X sensor to a Canon G12, S95 / S100 sized sensor (which are all good) I see a HUGE gain in lower noise at ANY ISO and the AF speed is easily equal to a G12.

Stay tuned :)

Hi David,

Hope things are going well in OH-IO, looks hot up there. The G1X appears to be a great little camera with lots of add-on lenses out in the market. I would love to see it setup with the Inon M150 macro fisheye which seems to work quite well on consumer compacts.

Would love to hear why Iklite has chosen to pass on the mirrorless cameras in a PM.

Regards,

Phil Rudin
