Thinking about this setup too. Have you used it yet with your Nauticam wide angle ?
Yes i like it alot.
That being said i rarely shoot wide angle here

I'm late to the party here, but I'm a big fan.

Nauticam greatly reduced the price of the housing since release, and I recently saw a Nauticam housing listed on Facebook for sale. I've can't say enough great things about the R50.

My "new to me" Canon R50 arrived yesterday more for land photography. I'll try a buddy's SeaFrogs housing for his Canon R50 he's used it on 3 trips with no problems so far except the Canon R50 pop up flash stops tripping past about 15 -20' :( He has a promise from SeaFrogs they're reworking the housing to ensure the pop up flash fires out for the molded ports so strobes can be used. He mainly has been using a strong video light and it works pretty well!

The SeaFrogs housing is significantly cheaper than the super nice Nauticam NA-R50 housing.

FYI - Due likely to yearly and production cost price increases (or possible impending tariffs since they're made in Hong Kong) the Nauticam NA-R50 housing alone is now $1,845.00. The PRO kit with Flexitray handles, tray and I believe vacuum valve installed is $2,320.00 now. About a 25% increase....

Time will tell if I use my Canon R50 underwater or stick with my Canon G7X II compact 1" sensor 20 megapixel camera which has produced great pics for me since 2016.

Pool tests tomorrow with my own Nauticam NA-R50 housing and Canon R50 camera.

My friend with the same set up has a Nauticam WWL-B super wide lens and dual Inon S220 strobes I tested for him last summer.

Will try a video light for some stills and an old wide angle lens (certainly not up to the Nauticam WWL-B sharpness) plus maybe some macro experiments.

Stay tuned!

Looking forward to seeing the results. I guess not having a removable port helped reduce costs and with the quality wet lenses available today, aside from a full 180 degree fisheye, the bases are covered adequately.

This is an interesting camera and housing, the only thing I see that I do not especially like is the shutter trigger and the lack of back button focus trigger. Guess we cannot have everything.

Amigos,

Here's samples from today’s pool dive in a 12' deep Recreation Center pool.

I had some tiny macro plastic creatures to experiment with and should have put my finger next to them so you could see how small they are.

My buddy used his Nauticam RA-50 housing and camera with dual Inon S220 strobes. His Nauticam WWL-B lens is surprisingly light underwater due to the buoyancy collar. He let me shoot a few pics while he played with his Nauticam CMC-2 macro lens.

You can really tell the difference the WWL-B lens (130 degrees at widest allowing you to shoot close) plus sharpness compared to the other Wide Angle lens I tried which is probably only about 90-95 degrees view and vignetted some.

I shot on AUTO ISO with the Canon RF-S 18-45mm IS STM lens at 18mm and wide open f4.5 maybe only closing to f5.6 . My only illumination for the colorful shots were using a top mounted OrcaTorch D710V 120 degree beam 2000 lumen video light. No strobes…..

The AF on the Canon R50 is astounding……..Accurate and fast plus the overall camera is easy to use underwater ! The NA-R50 housing is also a joy to use underwater :)

A DUAL Handle tray I ordered didn’t make it until today so I jury rigged a left handle / tray I had laying around. It was very manageable underwater.

Many of these were ambient light in a dark indoor pool and the Canon R50 picking crazy high ISO up to 3200 (!!!!)

More testing in the next few months but so far I like using the Canon R50 underwater :)

PS - My Apple Ultra II watch was brilliant !
