as for strobe the most popular are the Sea and Sea DX 25 and 90 from what i have seen and what people recognize (just ask Dee she loves her DX 90) for the canon A series there is a fiber optic attachment that goes over the flash port and the fibe optic cable that connects to the strobe and that how it gets the transmision info (if you need more info and part numbers because i dont have them off hand )

now this is just my opinon anyone is more then welcome to post there favorites as these are just my reccomendation

Anyone with suggestions what is the best setting when taking pics underwater with the A70?
Do you use auto?

Secondly i was adviced about using a filter(red one), but any ideas how to attach it?
Where can i buy one of them? Canon doesn't sell any.

Why the filter ??- I take a pad of Wet notes underwater and use the manual white balance if I want colour corrected shots. The only problem is that the water then becomes grey !! so not so good if you want the good foreground and blue background effect.

I know someone who does the same with a small piece of white plastic.

I rarely use Auto - much more use the P setting as I can quickly change different settings (focus on / off - AWB etc.) as I move from one shot to another.

I am very new to underwater photography with my Canon S330 & WP-DC500 housing. I am using the Ikelite DS-50 strobe package with the manual sensor. I found the above links to be very helpful with solving some of my problems.

I have now taken at least a thousand underwater shots with my A70 in a Cannon housing and have have very good results using the "P" setting and auto white balance and auto focus. I must say diving in the PNW I use Macro for most all shots as I don't yet have an external strobe. I have taken my camera to the Caymans and to Mexico and with the Caribean light and visibility it works great with out a strobe. I do occasionally use the infinity focus and as well step down the ISO setting one step with good results.

Remember to turn off the "preflash" red-eye and on Macro to hold the button down and the flash/ shutter will fire when the subject comes into focus. I am not steady enough to use any zoom on Macro so it is limited to about 2ft.

For the Money It is an awesome little Camera. I intend to get another housing as I consider them somewhat expendable for the money and the switches are not easily servicable.

As another note, I don't store the housing with the back clamped to save the o-ring. ($9) from Canon parts direct

Hope this helps? for some photos check out my gallery on my family website at Tims Family Homepage
