If you can spare the money take a cab/van. I paid 70$, he wanted 90. If it's busy they may not drop the price. Tell him to drop you at the Macdonalds so you can catch the ferry. If you have lots of luggage there are guys that will haul your stuff on bikes with carrybins on the front of them. If I have 6 bags I give him 100pesos or 10$. They will take it to the ferry, just follow them. It is a walk through a tourist trap zone. Say to the bike guy, I need a ferry ticket, he will tell you where to buy it. The bus is easy also. If you can cart all your gear then the bus isnt so bad. I hope your trip is as fun as mine is now. k

Not to confuse...McDonald's & the bus terminal are, functionally, the same place -- distance from the pier is approximately 2 1/2 city blocks. That's the start of Playa's is a pedestrian-only area, so hiring a tricycle man to take the luggage is the easiest & most efficient way go. The tricicleros don't have a rate schedule -- they work for tips only -- and, unless it's raining, they take the bags to the baggage-check area on the pier. If it's raining, they leave passengers in the roofed waiting area.

Wow, with 6 bags taking the bus would probably be a PIA. We packed down to two suitcases and a backpack and had no problems with the bus.

Another useful tip to save some money...

Either get peso's from your bank at home or exchange some money at the airport. The busses and cabbies (and many restaurants etc.) will take your US money but will only give you 10 peso to one dollar. The current exchange rate is 14 pesos to the dollar.
