Thank you Doc. You are amazing. We are so lucky to have you on the board.
I think if we had to pick one person to get the " All around, most helpful, knowledgeable award" it would indeed be you.

Hi Doc & everyone who lends a helping hand,

Sorry I have been busy, and forgot to check the board for a while. however the information your provided, especially from Doc, are very through and helpful, I am glad I found this board with so many wonderful guys.

Since I will be on business trip, so I will take the day trip adivce to Cosmel, how is the operation with AquaWorld? If I also want to try some dives, for the morning or afternoon when there is no interesting talk in the conference I am going, nearby Cancun, does anyone have any suggestion? Or maybe just snorkelling sites? Thanks!

Best regards,

Vincent:)

Hi Doc,

Since you are so knowledgable about that area, could your recommend some eating places in Cancun, I will be staying at Hyatt Regency. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a plan.

AquaWorld is okay. There are far superior ops to dive with on Coz proper, but you have to get to them under your own power. For a first timer with time constraints, AquaWolrd makes it about as easy as it gets.

Problem with AquaWolrd is that it takes large groups of mixed experience divers, which means you won't get to the most challenging sites, like La Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat), and likely will have some divers in the group who are borderline competent (obviously these two are related). Nonetheless, you should get in some fun diving. Coz has very few uninteresting sites.

As for ops on Cancun, I like Solo Buceo http://www.solobuceo.com/ . Blue Peace was another fav http://www.bluepeacediving.com/ , but I'm not sure if they're still operating. Except for a couple of advanced sites, e.g., Ultrafreeze, which usually take some planning to arrange, i.e., getting a boat full of qualified divers lined up, Cancun diving is pretty modest. But, it's still worth doing.

Cancun restaurants are not my forte, but I do like Bogart's (very classy & not far from where you are staying) & La Habichuela (Spanish for green bean; downtown so you'll need a cab; get the shrimp concoction that comes in a coconut).

Have fun.

Hi Doc,

I look up the web page of AquaWorld, and they did look like a humongous operation, and I don't like a big group (I only have 25 tanks experience) when I dive at a new site.

Should I just go to Solo Buceo or Blue Peace, since they both have day trip to Cozmel? Moreover, I don't plan to carry my heavy gears, how is the condition of equipment they provide, and which specific diving sites of Cancun and Cozmel will you recommend? Thanks again!

Best regards,
Vincent

AquaWorld has boats on Coz, but SB & BP do not. As I don't know who they use locally, I can't make a recommendation.

If you'll e-mail them & find out, chances are quite good that I'll know the op(s).

Best of luck.

You should check out Caballito del Caribe. They have small fast boats, great divemasters and they go out of their way to show you a good time.

If you dive with them, tell them that I (Cary from LA) said hi and will see them next year!

I agree that Caballito del Caribe does a good job, but, then, there are 65-70 dives ops on Coz, and many of them offer small fast boats & do a good job.

What Caballito del Caribe does not have, to the best of knowledge, is arranged trips from Cancun to Cozumel, which seems to be what Vincent, who is staying in Cancun, is looking for.

AquaWorld has ops & boats at both locations. Solo Buceo & Blue Peace are only in Cancun, but arrange for day trips over to Coz, and contract with a local op on Coz to do the diving. Vincent will not have any choice in this latter matter--he'll need to dive with whatever Coz op the Cancun shop has selected.

I'm not sure who SB & BP use on Coz, but I very much doubt that Caballito del Caribe is a choice. If he wishes to use them, he'll need to make his own way over to Coz. As can be seen from my post earlier in this thread, this is not an easy day trip for a first timer doing it on their own.

Best regards.

Hi Doc,

I have not heard from them yet since I sent e-mails last week, I will post the operation information on Coz. when I get any response.

One more thing, how is the condition of equipments they provide? Since I am travelling across the Pacific ocean I don't want to pack too much. Thanks!

Best regards,
Vincent
