Wow! I would imagine the two econonies are a bit put out by this turn of events. Pardon my ignorance of Mexican politics, but why would something like this happen?

I'd bet that it's more economic than political. If they weren't able to sell enough seats to make the route profitable, then they cancel the route.

My travel agent called today. Mexicana is no longer offering service between Cancun and Coz. My tickets are cancelled, money is refunded. I'm locked into flying through Cancun because I'm on a corporate charter to Cancun.

Yeah, yeah, I know, take the ferry, blah, blah. But I'm a lazy slob and I'd much rather just fly, and there's no way I can drag both my gear AND my wife's gear for her. No way she's going to do it. :pity_part

Does any other airline offer service between Canun and Coz?

Thanks,

aa

If you do end up having to take the ferry it's really not that bad. I'd gladly shell out an extra $200 if it meant arriving and departing more quickly with fewer hassles, but I'm not sure that's the case.

We booked a private van www.altournative.com to take us to PDC. Our driver picked us up in front of the airport, loaded our bags, made a prompt stop for some cervezas and chips, which were enjoyed on the way down, unloaded our bags in PDC and grabbed some porters to haul our bags to the ferry. Cervezas were enjoyed on the ferry ride over to Cozumel (which is really a short and pleasant ride) as well. I'd go this route again, even if the planes were available and cost the same.

I don't think that you are a lazy slob!
You can tip a little bit here, and a little bit there, and never have to lift a bag yourself!

It seems like those folks who want to go to Coz right now are not going to be too worried about being spoiled and comfortable. While it will be great to dive and support the local economy, the creature comforts that we have become used to will be inconsistent at best.
