Anyone on the Board know who runs the Scuba shop at the Moon Palace Resort? I'm about to refer an OW student for his OW dives.

I am staying at the Moon Palace and looking for someone to dive with. I see Aquaworld operates out of there. What kind of operation are they? I like small groups (3to1 divemaster),professionalism, and safety first. Not the large groups were you get lost in the shuffle.

Definitely not Aquaworld then... big boats, loads of people in the boat...

I too would avoid aquaworld. I dove with them once and was not impressed.

I was in Cancun last week of October and dove one time with Mayan Aqua Divers (MAD). Had my first open water dive in many years near the "Cross" on Manchones Reef just off Isla Mujares, ca 40 fsw. The water was on the rough side, with a surge completely to the bottom, and the visibility was not great; but as soon as I plopped into the water I was back at home. I went with a young friend taking a Resort Intro "course" just too see what SCUBA was like. We dove with a group containing a family,(father, mother & 2 kids ca 14ist yrs) with the two kids certifying and a single young man 12-14 yrs also on a Resort Course. Only the parents of the family group and myself were certified. I thought the trip was executed pretty well. For a group of 7 clients, they had three MAD divers in the water, and two others operating the boat. I thought they did good job of watching the air reserves on everyone and keeping the inexperienced group together. They took individuals to the surface as their air reached a pre determined level and let the others continue the dive. They provided fresh water and snacks on the boat ride back and showed video of the dive at the shop. They provided transportation to and from the site. All in all, I thought it was worth the price, and I have certainly had less well organized and less cordial trips. I will probably dive with them again. Having said that; I have no experience with other dive businesses in Cancun.

check out mayan aqua dive there a great operation with a nice boat

I'm also going to cancun during the holidays and i must say that the cost is costing me ALOT so i was thinking of going with Aquaworld for all my dives ( booking once their a dive package (cenotes, wall dives and cancun dives). They seem to charge the less... I know that they are what you guys call cattle boats and that they often rush their divers... but are they that bad? Would i still have fun diving with them?
