Hey everyone!
Heading to Cancun for a long weekend on the 25th! Can't wait!
Wanted to ask though.... I am considering just renting my equipment while I am there in order to save $ by not taking it on the plane with me. My question is, is the equipment that you rent from most of the places down there usually wore out? I mean, I don't want to get down there and have to go on a awesome dive trip and be wearing crap. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a gear snob or anything, I just want the equipment to be decent.
I'm considering taking my own reg, shorty, goggles, and computer.... My gear isn't purchased around being travel light, so I'm afraid I may be paying way more in baggage fees than what would be necessary.
Thoughts?
Ohhh...if it helps, I am thinking of going with Scorpio Divers.
Also, would try to book ahead of time? Or when I get there? Any times of the day better for diving there? Any other thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks!
Micah

Hola from Cancun, not sure what Scorpio Divers recommended, but if you have your own gear, use it! sure it is expensive to travel with it but it is your OWN gear, all dive shops here have good gear, but it is rental gear, there is nothing like your own, you know it, your gear knows you and if you are doing several dives you will not pay for gear rental and make up a little for the extra luggage. Just my opinion.
DIVE SHOPS HERE IN GENERAL GO OUT IN THE MORNINGS WITH THE CERTIFIED DIVERS TO THE CORAL REEFS 55 TO 57FT OR THE WRECKS 75FT
THE AFTERNOON DIVES ARE GENERALLY FOR BEGINNER DIVERS BUT ALSO FOR CERTIFIED DIVERS THAT WISH TO VISIT THE MUSEUM OR SHALLOW CORAL REEFS 30FT

HAPPY DIVING

Thanks for the insight, Miguel!
Been thinking about it and I believe I will take my own gear. Saving on the cost of rental with offset some of the baggage cost and I will get to use my OWN gear.
Been talking a guy from Scorpio. Looks like I will probably be diving on Saturday and Whale Shark snorkeling on Sunday! Weather permitting.
I can't wait! This will be my first trip to somewhere like this.

Bow,

I always bring my own gear because it is comfortable for me and familiar. I know where everything is located.

I will say that the gear Scorpio Divers has is in great shape and looked almost brand new last March.

We are heading back down to dive with Ben and Jorge in Oct.

Have fun!!

Had an amazing time at Cancun last weekend!
Two dives Saturday morning with Ben and one other diver and two dives that night with Mark.
I ended up taking my own equipment with me and was very glad I did. I'm sure their equipment would have served just fine, but felt more comfortable in my own.
For my first dive in tropical waters and my first night dive, I had an AWESOME time! Saw things that I previously had only dreamed of seeing.
Thanks Scorpio! You guys are the best!
