Hey All,

Planning a trip to Cancun and Cozumel in just a few weeks, kind of spur of moment but due to an airfare opprtny. must go. I have never been to Cancun or Cozumel. My dive partner however has, once. We are thinking about staying in in Cancun, diving some there both from shore and boat trips, and then taking a ferry to Cozumel for a couple days and diving there as well. I would like to receive peoples honest opinions on where to stay..... We are open and down for an adventure but here are a couple stipulations our potential resort must have:

--Access to Easy Shore Diving - Is this readily available in Cancun ?
--Decent Accomodations -We are NOT looking for a $500 a night suite. Decent, middle-to-lower rated/price hotels/resorts - OK. We are more about a budget and having some fun rather than a 46" flat panel in our room.
--On the beach (hence shore diving)
--Airfare is NOT needed, no package needed
--Inclusive Resorts OK - Food, Beverage, etc.
--Due to my work, I MUST have internet at the hotel/resort.

Thank you in advance to everyone who replies. I don't have a lot of time to put this together, so please be blunt and honest about your good AND bad experiences....

Thank you,

Scubeneath

The diving I've done near Cancun pales to what they have in Coz. If there is no other reason to stay in Cancun, spend your whole trip on Cozumel with maybe a few nights near Playa del Carmen if you want to dive the cenotes (caverns.)

Thank You ! I was under the belief tho that resorts r far more $$ in Cozumel vs Cancun. As im just starting my research I think I begin to explore that ave. So that being said.....any place youve stayed @ in Coz that has our needs ?

I would not do the ferry thing to dive in cozumel multi-days. What a utter exhausting process that would be. Stay in Cancun and dive there or stay in Coz and dive there. Cancun is big and developed, just a couple of cancun resorts would add up to more rooms than there are on all of Cozumel. The resorts in Cancun are large, Cozumel's are tiny in comparison.

The time of year you are going to be there would dictate somewhat which place to stay. If you get their before Sept 1st which is the closing day of whale shark season, staying in Cancun would get you access to snorkeling with whale sharks which is a major event in most people's live with the whale shark aggregation off Isla Mujeres, which is accessible from Cancun, being one of the worlds most prized whale shark experiences.

If you want the better diving, it's consistently over in Cozumel, the reefs are totally different there with more variety, more dramatic, and more sites. However if you have 0-24 dives, you aren't going to know the difference and Cancun will be awesome to your newbie eyes! But I'd just dive where you are staying. Staying in Cozumel pretty much means all you are going to do is dive or hang out at the pool. Staying in Cancun means you can dive, hang by the pool, dive a cenote, go to one of the Mexican disney land type parks like Xplor, go to world class ruins, or go down the coast to Tulum, and or party and disco if that is your thing, there is no night life to speak of over in Coz.

I work at Blue Angel, and so am biased... but it meets all your criteria in cozumel save the all inclusive. There is an on-site restaurant and breakfast is included, but not lunch or dinner. There is a nice happy hour 2 for 1 menu, drinks and tapas.

Wherever you choose, enjoy your visit to mexico. :-)

Man Mike, Thank you, LOL. I haven't been on the board in a LONG time, didn't realize my profile was so out of date. I have updated. I have just under 200 total dives, my first Dive Master Dive done recently and I am currently PADI Advanced Deep Water Certified. So sorry for the out of date B.S. Thank you however for your post !!! We are going to Dive, party, and Dive again........I think we might be learning toward staying and (mostly) diving in Cozumel and Cenote. PLEASE MORE POSTS !!!!!!!!!

Thank you,

Lots of good advice and there are great options out there.

The August deal at Scuba Club Cozumel Specials is pretty hard to beat. 3 meals a day, two morning boat dives and unlimited shore diving.

There are many others worth trying too.

Keith,

Looking more for the middle of October.....any advice or deals for that time period ?

I can see over at Dive Deals | Scuba Travel Deals and Scuba Packages | Scuba Diving that SCC has second diver half price for September and October. They also have what looks like a pretty good deal with Hotel Cozumel and Dive Paradise. As mentioned above, check out Blue Angel as well. Whoever you decide to go with, you will love diving on Cozumel.
