joins the board and learns about DIR...what then?

Two weeks later he is found totally incoherent due to his inability to choose between Apeks/Scubapro; 7ft hose/6ft hose; alum bp/ss bp; Scout light/Canada knockoff. Ahh, the list is endless...

Dont like hijacking my own thread, but this is pretty damn funny... :)

I don't think you can claim to dive DIR until you have actually been trained by the guys who teach it... Can you dive DIR if you have never taken a GUE course?
Well now, that depends on your definition of "DIR" doesn't it? If by "DIR" you mean the branded GUE/Halcyon moniker, then I suppose you can't be "DIR" unless you are blessed by GUE and every piece of dive gear you own is Halcyon. If, on the other hand, you mean "Doing (scuba diving) Right" then the answer is that you needn't have ever heard of either GUE or Halcyon to qualify.
Now, if your perception is that the only way to scuba dive right is "DIR" then you have a long, long way to go in your scuba - and life, for that matter - education.

Here's another one to stir the pot...can you be DIR even though you don't adopt one or two things? Like, let's say you dive air on 60' dives or you dive off Northeast boats that shackle the wreck..

If they find out you did this stuff they might not even let you in that cave class. LOL

All the Great Lakes boats hook the wreck or a mooring. You don't have a choice.

It's all or none as far as I've heard. I seem to remember a thread on this last fall; I'll have to dig it out.

King Kong Matt,
I think your question is legit and not sure why some people are so rude....isn't this the place for sharing, learning and expressing individuality?

..but I just wanted to see what everyone thought. To be honest, I can't think of a single diver I know that has every tenet nailed down 100%.

MikeF - I didn't do any of that crazy stuff! Please don't tell Tyler, ok? :D

But why?.....Why do people feel the need to be 100% DIR so that they can call themselves DIR.

If people adopted 50% of DIR they would be safer divers and there is nothing wrong with that.

Lets go back to the 60ft air dive.....So what now? Is this so unsafe that the person is some kind of stroke??? Come on...all thats happened is that Internet DIR diver has made a 60 ft dive a "deep Air" stroke dive.
