Hi, I am new to diving with only about 10 dives. I have been picking up equipment and found this deal on ebay that I thought looked good and bought right away. I have it now and can't find any model numbers, just the number 191237 on the first stage which im assuming is a serial number? I would like to find some info about it first because im in Nova Scotia and it get's pretty cold.

Ok, I tried to post the link but it says I don't have enough posts. If you know a lot about mares regs can you please send me a pm with your email and I can send the link?

Thanks for the help!

Any way for you to copy & paste the pic?

Type the link as follows

ach-tee-tee-pee www - dot - xyz - dot . . .

Get the idea? once you get past the .com or whatever, you can put the rest of the link as it naturally shows.

ok, just need to put in the h-t-t-p-:-/-/

cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200405084234&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I was going to bid on that one too.
It's an older Mares MR12 1st stage with an Apeks (Zeagle or Beuchat) 2nd stage. The sticker on the purge is missing but the Zeagle and Beuchat 2nds were made by Apeks.
Nice deal.

great..Thanks!! So should I get the cold water kit for the first stage for here in NS? Also is the second stage ok for cold water?

The 1st stage is a balanced diaphragm design that should be good down to the high 40's without the messy cold water kit.
If the 2nd stage has the metal heat sink (where the hose attaches) rather than a plastic spacer then it is their cold water version.

The water was 45 last week, so probably goes down to high 30's but im not too sure.
The second stage has no heat sink, would it be good to use as a secondary and buy
a better primary?

As a long time resident of South Florida I'm not the person to ask...however the Apeks T20 or Zeagle X-RD probably is better than many 2nd stages for cold water use since it does have a metal air barrel.
btw if it is the Apeks there will be a chrome ring seen at the venturi lever end....the end of the X-RD is black plastic.

The MR-12 is a diaphragm reg, with a little care you should do fine even without a coldwater kit.
