I'm a Fish!
Hi All!

I am in DESPERATE need of a lithium battery for my Sealife DC500. If there is someone who is coming down very soon, it would be appreciated if you could bring me a couple. I can either order them at scuba.com and have them shipped to you, or if you want, you can pick them up and I will be happy to pay for them when you get to BONAIRE.

Thanks.

Liz

I will be there in June and I was just at Scuba.com today getting a shorty for my trip. If no one else can do it earlier I can have them to you June 16 when we come for the food. Make sure I can pick them up directly from the shop (that will save you the shipping charge).

Rick

if DvrRick falls through I can be second in line to help you, I'm in Bonaire on June 24th

I will be on island June 7th. If you can give me the battery number or specs I can bring one with me. We need to coordinate this with Rick though, so you don't get two batteries.

PS: I got your Pecan Sandies :)

And if all else fails, I will be on island the last of July, be happy to bring one for you.

OK.... really dumb question....and I am sure there is a good answer----why can you/OP not order the batteries and have them shipped direct to you?

international shipping, custom fees, and most like a 'general services tax' or something like it turns that battery into a real expensive battery.

I'm guessing she's trying to avoid all those "extra fees".

but then again.... how expensive can it be to ship a $30 battery to Bonaire the "normal way" ?

EDIT: Battery is small... so figure 1 pound.
sending 1 pound from US to Bonaire is $9.85 to send via "International First Class" and $19.50 to send International Priority Mail.

I'm sure one of the reason reasons is cost verses time though. those shipping options aren't overnight and they still have to wait for it to clear international customs for a package, which is not quick sometimes (depending on country).

Anything that you can "legally smuggle in" for friends (old and new) should be high priority.

As Mike_S laid it out, it also includes the delays in customs and the local delivery services. That's the never ending nightmare of living in paradise. Like when Honduras charged import duty for the mooring balls for the Marine reserve project, a non taxable body.

Some places like the Bay Islands only have mail service in a theoretical sense. Also, when you mention "Radio Shack" it likely does have a thatched roof. Bonaire is a lot better, but I don't think that MallWart has regular hours at the Krinkydink town mall.

We have hauled (at various times) outboard motor parts, cheese, beef brisket, vitamins, insulin, microwave ovens packed with popcorn, 4 radial tires, a DVD player and the movie our Dive Master starred in, batteries, film, watches, regulators and I don't know what all else. Back in the day, .22LR ammo. Take the price tags off of questionable stuff.

Of course, it's all for our personal use, Mr. Customs Man.

Do a favor, be a mule.

That is sorta what I was thinking....you guys explanations all make good sense.....hope she gets those batteries!!! :)
