As Mike_S laid it out, it also includes the delays in customs and the local delivery services.

Do a favor, be a mule.

There is actually a striving legal commercial business hand carrying parts, packages, etc on airline flights for same day delivery service for commercial purposes.

my wife used to work in International freight deliveries. They had an entire group at her company that did nothing but fly and hand carry packages in order to get them in the country and through customs quicker.

It might seem expensive, but if you've got a production line down due to needing parts and you're having to pay all these workers to stand around waiting a week or two for the parts, flying an "international courrier" gets pretty cheap.

I've even done it for them before when they couldn't get someone on quick enough notice to "be the mule". Picked up the package at their office which is in a US customs intermodal facility, hopped on the plane, at the other end, waiting on me was a Customs Broker and a Federale Customs Agent. We went into their office and processed all the customs paperwork for the material I was carrying and everything was done. I hopped on the next plane home. Got paid a very nice "courrier fee" for it.

All of this because they couldn't afford the down time because of this part.

Thanks all, my battery is coming down! We rarely, if ever ask for anything, but this is an extremely small part and the likelihood of it actually making it here is less than 50%! Seems small things tend to get lost very easily. FYI, I did however have my son bring me down a computer. All I had to do was go to the customs office at the airport, provide them with a copy of the receipt (had son fax it to me). I paid the tax and my son had no problem going through. They already had the paperwork and $ completed. It is probably much easier here as we have a VERY small airport. Thanks again to all.

Herman,
When will you be on bonaire, and where will you be staying? We will be there from the 13to the 20th.

July 26-Aug3, first week at Den Laman and the second at Buddy. Looks like we will just miss each other.
I have been a mule on occasions to several friends on Bonaire. I have carried kites, doughnuts, Tshirts and a English language Christmas Mass book amoung other things. Always happy to help out a friend.

Your new battery and charger are packed in the suitcase, ready to bring down this weekend. I will see you at the Monday night meet & greet, unless you need it sooner.

Mike,

It varies depending on the items. Linens and furniture are at around 51% with ALL taxes and duties included, while computers, and computer parts are 5% sales tax only. There is a list that can be obtained through RoCargo (freight company here). Its amazing, it is very "left to interpretation. I had solid wood kitchen cabinets brought in. They have a "kitchen" category, but said that they kitchen cabinets qualified as "furniture" so the cost went from about 38% all in to 51% all in. With the shipping costs, I paid as much as I did for the cabinets.

The good thing is that I now have quality kitchen cabinets (not the Ikea quality with plastic legs), so for me it was worth the $$$.

BTW....THANKS MIKE!!!!!!

Liz
