I'm trying to add a slap strap to my Aqualung mask, but I cannot for the life of me get the strap off. The ribs at the end refuse to go through the buckle. I've pulled as hard as I feel I can to the point the strap is stretching nearly to half thickness - I'm afraid if I pull any harder I'm going to break the buckle. I've tried wet, dry, I''ve tried using a screwdriver and a butter knife to flatten down the ribs and fit them through. Any ideas? I'm completely out.

Hot water on the ends of the strap maybe? It's not typical for Aqualung masks.

Lubricate with some dish soap. It may help a lot! putting the mask in hot water first might also soften the strap a little, I'm not sure.

Grab your strap as closely as possible to the buckle and pull it hard through
Dishwashing liquid is a brilliant idea, just don't get it on your pulling fingers

But leave the hot water alone, as it does not soften as people would know if
they had actually grabbed a mask and done some tests before suggesting it
