As has been stated, your c-card is for life but you definitely should take a refresher course (as you indicated). I found it difficult to dive the first time I traveled internationally because many operations did not recognize my Los Angeles County c-card from the 60s and required a "check out" dive before I could go with them. I finally got a PADI AOW card while on the Great Barrier Reef to respond to such concerns (even though I have thousands of dives under my weight belt).

I really enjoyed my 3-month circle-the-Pacific trip and dove in a number of different countries. I wish you a safe and thrilling journey that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Several years ago my husband and I took a refresher course at our LDS after five years of no diving. The course was in their salt water pool. I was SO glad we took the refresher because I couldn't exactly remember how my equipment worked or the correct way to attach the reg to a tank. We worked on a number of skills.... buoyancy, mask clearing, inflate/deflate BCD, etc. I felt so much more comfortable when we went on our diving vacation a couple weeks later. After back rolling into the ocean from the boat, I thought I would've been in trouble had I not taken the refresher.

Have a wonderful vacation....I'm jealous :sigh:. Safe diving!
