Thanks to everyone who posted in reply to my Question. I feel much better now that it appears I have some options. I will however see an ENT (probably long overdue anyways)! haha

Regards!

Hi, DocV--That's the first I've heard of them. They might just work. I've got one concern...if I can't get a good seal with my mask all the time, how on earth to you get a consitent seal around the ears, with hair in the way, while constantly looking left and right, etc, etc?

Adamk119 seems to be saying that he still experiences middle ear problems and I'm not sure if he also experiences chronic problems related to his past infections and trauma.

Thanks for the info on the mask though. I'm sure there must be a place for it.

Regards, and Happy New Year.

If you're thinking of pursuing such water dams, try the Doc's Proplugs first as they are both far, far easier to use & less costly.

As for the mask, I have a healthy head of hair & was able to make the cups seal fairly well simply by keeping hair out from under the ear cups as much as posible, just as one would with the face seal.

Best regards.

I am in no way an expert. But my concern with such a mask is not if it would work, but what happens if it either gets knocked off or the strap breaks while submerged. You could encounter some sever injuries. =-)

Am I the only one that finds it distressing that someone would rely on the opions of unknown people from the internet over calling a dive store, cert agency?

Howdy norcaldiver:

I don't think it's particularly troubling when people just ask for "help and ideas" (as opposed to looking for specific diagnoses) here as a one method of getting some information, particularly when they're open to being led in the right direction (like Adamk119 heading to the ENT).

I have to admit that I do find it a bit of a head-scratcher when people have already talked to their dive instructor with whom they have an established and trusting relationship, called DAN, seen an ENT and a hyperbaric specialist, and then come here for opinions from strangers who know nothing about them, but that's not what Adamk119 did. I don't know that a dive store or cert. agency could have told him any more than he learned here until he gets that ENT exam by a qualified medical professional.

Just my 2¢,

Bill
