Can i mix 1st stage brands with a different 2nd stage brand

I have a hog D1 1st stage and a hog 2nd stage. For my octo i have a scubapro r395 and scubapro gages. Is there anything wrong with mixing the two brands. I am waiting for my second hog reg to come in the mail and my wife is begging me to go diving this weekend.

As long as there are no Poseidon's in the mix you should be OK. The second stages could require tuning to play nice on their new 1st stage.

There's a very slight risk that the intermediate pressure of the 1st stage is tuned slightly high, causing the 2nd to hiss (free flow). If it happens and if you're handy with a screw driver, the quick fix is: remove the hose R395 side, turn the little white screw inside (orifice) 30° or 1 hour clock wise. Test again.

NB.: to all gurus, before you kick me again: I know this will lower the lever height, but 30° wouldn't make a big difference; it'll save the dive for sure.

What would be the HOG and SP two first stages operate around the same intermediate pressure. Go ahead and use the 2nd stage SP reg with the HOG's. At some point though for ease of servicing I would recommend spending another $107 or whatever the current price is on another HOG second stage. The HOG service parts are way cheaper than Scubapro's and easily available to more shops and individuals.
