Hi,

I found this tooth while diving the other day, and I'm not sure what it came from, and neither does anyone else I've talked to. Does anyone have an idea? If not do you know of anyone I can send the picture to and get it identified?

Thanks

Definitely looks like a jaw.

Put a quarter or something in the pic for perspective.

I'm quite certain that this is the left side mandible (lower jaw bone) of a rodent. On your picture the part at the very bottom is where the long lower teeth would grow out of.

I'm not a biologist and there's no reference for size on your picture so I can't make a guess as to which animal it came from. Given the shape of the back teeth I'm thinking mouse or rat depending on how big it is.

R..

Can't tell the size, if it is around 1.5"-1.75", it looks like a broken piece of a muskrat jaw?

I have one just like it.Seems rodent like, this one is 2in.
