During the red tide bloom this week, I've heard several reports of dead dolphins and sea lions (Laguna Beach). No apparent trauma, just dead. I've heard that this is a know reaction to bacteria caused by the red tide.

Can I get a local Marine Biologist to explain this for us? Thanks, Bill!! (or other MB):D

See you don't have to be a "MB" to know something about the oceans...lots of people get so "impressed" with degrees...sometimes, but not always required.

And Phil, don't get me started on the title of "Doctor" for none medical credentials. I have a PHD friend who likes to make restaurant reservations identifing himself as "Dr." So I ask him...how stupid will he feels when an emergency occurs at the restaurant and they come up to him for his assistance and he reveals that he's not that kind of a doctor. :dork2:

Wow... pretty strange twist to this thread.

I agree that a degree in and of itself may not reflect knowledge, and that a frequent SCUBA diver may actually experience more about the ocean than a marine biologist who remains mostly in the lab and focuses on a tony area of expertise... but give me a break. Is this just more anti-science pap?

My PhD took longer to acquire than an MD. Doctor was actually a title initially given to scholars before it was applied to medical personnel (who back in those days were often barbers).
