The 5.2 version of Adobe Camera Raw is supposedly capable of reading the raw files from the 5D Mk.II as well as the G10 directly.
My question in relation to this is if anyone know if that also applies to the raw files created with other cannon cameras using CHDK, for example in my case the G9?

Well, you can now upgrade your CHDK hack to the new version that supports real DNG raw files.

I'm using this new CHDK and now I can open the dng raw files direct from camera with CameraRaw without the need of conversion with DNG4PS.
NEW CHDK
Try it!

The G9 can do RAW without needing chdk. I'm not sure what version of ACR will support it, but I'd imagine any of the newer ones should.

But to answer your question, there is a conversion that needs to be done to the chdk raw files in order to open them if you're using one of the other versions of chdk (read: versions older than the one lrossel mentions). I'm not sure of the details since i don't have a canon, but I do remember reading about it somewhere. Try the chdk wiki.

The G9 can NOT shoot raw without a mod. That was its major downside when it came..

Yeah, the G9 can shoot RAW all day long... The G7 is the camera you are thinking of.

ACR (current version) supports G9 as well as Canon's DPP software.

I have the G9, the G9 can NOT shoot RAW without a hack. The G10 can, but the G9 can not shoot raw "as is". Not that it matters, if the newest CHDK saves ACR-ready formats thats what I needed to find out. If my camera is supposed to shoot raw but the settings not there I have some buisness to take care of with some dudes at a certain camera shop..

Maybe the Norwegian G9 had different firmware?

Canon PowerShot G9 Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

12.1 Megapixels (1/1.7” sensor) with RAW mode for maximum image control

RAW mode

By far the most common complaint about the G7 was the loss of the raw shooting mode that had been a feature of every previous G model, and it came as no surprise when Canon finally relented and added it back in to the the G9 (it's been a couple of years since we saw a Raw shooting mode on any Canon compact). As well as allowing photographers maximum control over parameters such as white balance (and to a degree, exposure) after the shot has been taken, it also allows them to overcome some of the issues we see with all small sensor compacts (over enthusiastic noise reduction, tone curve and dynamic range issues). We were also very pleased to see that Canon has managed to produce a raw mode on a compact that is actually usable - the shot-to-shot time is surprisingly short (it's not unheard of for compact cameras to make you wait 10 seconds or more between shots in raw mode).

No. Shooting RAW was like the major UPGRADE in the G9 over the G7. To support my argument, I provide a link to Canon's description of the G9.LINK. Just scroll on down to Image storage and low and behold, it says "RAW". I don't know how to make it work in your camera (since I don't have one), but if you read the manual, I'm sure it will tell you.

Tigerman, You either have something other than the G9, a defective G9 or you are shooting in AUTO mode.
My hard drive filling up can attest to the fact that the G9 shoots in RAW as well as RAW + JPEG.
You will only get RAW in the Tv, Av, M & P modes though, not in AUTO.
