Too many to pick from but think the features that are essential is manual control (underwater photography is not really compatible with auto-exposure), relatively short shutter lag (newer cameras are MUCH better) and housing flexibility (go with ikes). I have used an old Nikon P&S before and am using the Oly 7070 now. I have to admit that the Oly gives me a lot more control over exposure and depth-of-field compared with the more automatic Nikon.

Also make sure the housing for the camera can support a strobe (eg a place to mount the optic fibre for light activated slave strobes, or a hotshoe for cable activated strobes). Again, look at Ikes as alternatives to the original camera makers' housings.

And to quote Gilligan, make sure u can mount add-on lens on the housing. REALLY HELPS with the macros and the wide-angles...

Have fun!
