Considering the responses from other 5060 users with the PT020 housings, I'm probably gonna go ahead and purchase the Ikelite housing for the camera.

FYI scubatoys has the best prices on Ikelite housings. I have the 8080 and the case was only $529. That's $80 below retail. They were even better on the DS-50 Strobe

So the cheapest housing that doesnt leak for an Olympus 5050 is $500?

I have friends with a zillion dives on their PT-15's and PT-10's with no issues. Another buddy soaked his Oly in a L&M Housing the FIRST TIME OUT.

They all leak.

Olympus repaired my housing, apparently it had a defect or something - they acknowledged the problem and its being shipped back to me Wednesday(29th) so I should have it just after the new year rolls over. Apparently the Orings weren't the correct size - perhaps this happened on more than one occasion causing the Orings to pop out in the corners under pressure?

The camera is beyond economical repair. They are creating a case in order to get me a replacement(hopefully). D'Oh!!!

Knowing they repaired the casing, I'm contemplating bringing it UW with me on dives after I get it(before I get a replacement camera) - in order to test its reliability. If all goes well, I may convince myself not to go with the Ikelite casing(probably will kick myself in the butt in the long run). I'll know by Tuesday whether or not they will be replacing the camera or I have to fork over another ~$500 on my own - ugh!

I am not a lawyer, but let me get this straight. Olympus "acknowledged" that there is a problem, and you are not sure if they are replacing the camera? This sounds to me like a product recall! This is just like saying that my brakes failed on my brand new car, causing me to wreck the car. The manufacturer knew about it, and all they did was fix the brakes!

Actually I just read your first post a few minutes ago. I was going to say that the oring looks to be under sized, and a quick (not permanent fix) was to stretch the oing by hand or get the next size up. I would'nt wait for Olympus' response, I would be writing them right now, and cc this forum. Olympus should, at the very least, get you a refurb. camera.

Regards

I'll give em till Tuesday, they lady I talked to was rather convinced they would replace the camera.

Believe me, if they don't, they're gonna catch hell day in and day out.

I'm glad to hear progress is being made - how ever slow it is !

Housing was delivered today - they shipped 2nd Day Air for whatever reason. I appreciate that, I guess, but it was a wasted effort without a camera.

Diving tomorrow morning, gonna take the housing down with me(85-90' fresh/cold/water) sans camera. We'll see if it holds up to a dive or two.

Checked the new Orings, like the last ones, they appear fine. Lightly greased em back up and made sure the channels and contact areas are lint/hair/debri free. Hopefully, 2nd times a charm.
