Ikelite has a housing for the Canon EOS-300D Digital Rebel. The suggested retail price is $1200. It is rated to 200 feet. I'm sure there are other companies as well but they will likely be in the same or higher price range.

It's me again..I'm getting no one likes the MX-10...
I have land cameras both digital and film..should I just invest in a housing?
Sandi
ps..I borrowed someone's film camera w/Ikelite housing and strobe and HATED it..was a pain to use and the strobe made me look like ET underwater. The reason why I like the MX 10 is that it's streamline..so wait, is there a good version of the MX10??

You haven't shared your level of photography skills with us. If you are fairly new to underwater photography you will likely go through numerous rolls of film only to get 1 or 2 "keepers" of a roll, if that. Why do that to yourself when you can use digital and save that money?
What digital cameras do you presently have?
The MX10 isn't anywhere near as streamiline as many of the smaller prosumer digital cameras in their respective brand housings, not to mention the control over your photos that a digital will offer.

I started U/W photography with an MX-10. It's a decent camera, and I got some excellent results. It's not that no one like the MX-10, we just feel that for the money you can do so much better with a digital. I don't regret the switch at all. If you want to stick with film, the MX-10 is a good entry level camera. There is no other 'version' of the MX-10.

You say you already have digital cameras so you know the advantages of film over digital. You don't say which cameras you have. Not all digital cameras have housing available. But assuming yours does, if you have at least a 4 megapixel camera you might want to consider getting the housing for it. Housed prosumer digital cameras are just as streamlined as the MX-10, some even more so.

I think the MX10 is a fine camera for what it is. I think that you will get much better results earlier with a different system (digital) and that a different system will allow you to expand your photography should you wish to do so later.

This might be an option, have a check around to see if there is a housing for your existing camera. It's nice to have a second camera, though. I have a tiny Sony that I use for my holiday land snaps...don't need to use the batteries from my underwater system and don't need to fuss with the front port being dry/streak free or take the camera out of the housing.

Depending on the model, these are big guys! I have one and loved it when I was using my SLR. But it did add effort to the dive plan.

An MX10 is an MX10. Check out the housings for your digital camera and others...most are at least as small and streamlined as the MX10.

I think she meant advantage of digital over film...

It's a tough call...but you're getting some real world advice on this thread...

Excellent link!!! That scares me to think how much equipment I would be holding in my hand!!! I already had my camera float to the surface - fortunately, another diver saw it and grabbed it and held on to it for me. I didn't even realise it was missing! Now, another question, I guess this would require specialised insurance as the regular DAN would not cover it??

OOPS...yes, I meant digital over film!

Be sure and read ALL the fine print.

That's a dead link on the DEPP! I am a DAN member so the first one might be better. Anyway, I haven't got the new housing yet so not in a rush. Still, added to my favourites, thanks.
