I was removing my cam bands today and one of the wedges broke. :depressed: The skinniest part of it seems to have torn apart from the main middle section. I can't see that this would impact it's function nor performance. It might be annoying and slightly dangly... but the inner part will still compress. Would you agree Tobin?

As long as the pad remains between the camband and the back plate it will do it's job.

The pads are soft, they have to be to work correctly. A little care when removing will extend their life.

What is the purpose of these soft rubber pads?

They provide compliance in the system, as the strap stretches and the cylinder diameter reduces as the pressure drop the compressed pad rebounds and maintain tension in the camband.

Contrary to popular myth cambands don't need to be extremely tight to retain a cylinder, they just need to maintain some tension.

With no compliance in the system, rigid cylinder strapped to a metal back plate for example very little strap stretch is required to reduce the strap tension to near zero.

With the wedge blocks in place tension is maintained.
