Hey Scubakevdm,

Glad you're coming out - we'd love to dive with ya!! Hey, it just so happens that our Monthly Wrinkles dive for March is on the 11th, Saturday, Catalina Island at the Avalon Dive Park. That'll be a great one, so we hope you can make it!!:D For info on our Wrinkles dives and how they work, check out our current January planning thread:

Here's a good link for boat diving - any of the operators in Ventura could let you know the availability of a Thursday dive to San Miguel:

Good luck!

Scubakevdm:
I'd like to also be diving with sea lions that don't swim as well as I do. Any guidance would be deeply appreciated.

Oh yeah. Again, I'm clueless, but what are the odds of finding a boat going to San Miguel on a Thursday?

One of the best places to dive with seals is Santa Barbra island if you can find a boat going there when you are here.

The Peace dive boat in Ventura does a regular Wednesday trip to San Miguel island if the weather and swells allow them to go so check there schedule.

Hey thanks man! This is gonna be GREAT!

So, Kev, are you putting the Wrinkles dive on your agenda?! I can't wait to hear your scream as you hit the cold water, LOL!

I have found that you have great chances with Sea Lions off Anacapa and Santa Barbara Island.

These guys will get you to any of the northern channel islands. When everything is blown out boats still can make it to Anacapa, always a good side somewhere.

Santa Barbara Island is a little more hit and miss. Check out:

A lot of boats supply their schedule to this site but not all.

This site lists all the boats and their websites, mind you the site still lists the Encore but it has been sold. The boats are ordered by their location, Northern most on top and Southern on the bottom.

Hope you have a blast!

Scubakevdm,
Too bad I didn't get to meet you last week when I was in Ft. Lauderdale. You're probably right up the street from where I was.

Anyway, my guess is that a bunch of us will be staying on Catalina for a couple of nights the weekend of the Wrinkles dive in March. Probably arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday afternoon. It's a blast, Avalon is a great place to spend a long weekend, you can dive 'til you puke, and I think it's the time of year when you can get some very cheap rates at the whatchamacallit hotel (Hermosa??). There's also a sticky post in this forum describing Catalina and some logistics:

You really should consider joining us. Good restaurants, nightlife, some wonderful diving within walking distance from the hotel. And chicks REALLY dig it... :D

Yeah, it was the Hermosa:

Winter rates are around $40-50 for a small room, and it's about a 10 minute walk to the Casino dive park.

Catalina is usually a good bet compared to the wintertime crapshoot of beach diving.
